New London Rotary Scholarship Program
About the Scholarship Program
New London Rotary established this program over thirty years ago to help make the dreams of education beyond high school a reality for area seniors from Kearsarge Regional High and Sunapee Middle High School. These scholarships are awarded in the spring of the senior year and can be used to help a young person prepare for their next step – whether it be college or trade school.
Application Process
Each applicant is required to provide a reference from a faculty member and from an outside individual; high school grades for 4 years including SAT scores and FAFSA (the Federal Student Aid application that students complete in order to determine their financial aid eligibility).
Interviews begin in the late spring with members of the Scholarship Committee who visit the two schools. They will meet with each applicant to determine their eligibility and the challenges facing the students as they consider their next steps.
Following the interviews, the Committee comes together to assess the applicants in the context of their need and the funds available. They make their decisions as quickly as possible and email each student to notify them of the decision.
The students and their families are invited to a breakfast at Colby-Sawyer College on the first Friday in June to welcome them as new scholarship recipients and to have them meet those who have supported their aid.
