New London Rotary Club donates 2,000 masks to Boys and Girls Club

At a ceremony at the First Baptist Church of New London, Debbie Stanley, New London Rotary Gift Giving Chair, donated 2,000 child-sized masks to the Boys and Girls Club.  

Ms. Stanley stated that these masks are part of the Million Mask Challenge, a joint program of the Rotary Clubs of New England and the Rossi Family Foundation of Connecticut.  Starting with a goal of one million masks, the program grew to donations of over five million masks to non-profit organizations throughout New England.

Rebecca Woods, Boys and Girls Club site director, stated that the donation of these masks comes at a very propitious time, as different varieties of the virus have become prevalent, and families have become more cautious.

Reverend Charles Glidewell, Senior Pastor at the First Baptist Church of New London, remarked that his Church is proud to host and sponsor both, the New London Rotary Club and the Boys and Girls Club of New London, among other key community groups.  He stressed the importance of community organizations in maintaining the quality of life of families and children.

Bob Siemienowicz, Rotary District Governor 7870, emphasized the commitment of Rotary Clubs to community participation, health and wellbeing of children.

The New London Rotary Club has been an active partner in New London since 1978.  The Club sponsors a yearly scholarship drive that has benefited hundreds of college and trade school-bound students from the Kearsarge and Sunapee School Districts.  Since the start of the scholarship program, the Club has disbursed over $700,000.  The Club also runs a major literacy program together with elementary schools and local area libraries and provides funds in special individual cases where there is paramount need.
